Changes to Client Quarantines

In preparation for deploying a domain-wide quarantine for our clients, we're instituting a small enhancement to client quarantines. Messages that are marked as "definitely spam" are now being sub-classified into two separate (invisible) buckets. Messages placed into the first bucket are still definitely spam, and will be quarantined as normal. Messages blaced into the second bucket are now treated the same as virus-laden messages, and are immediately dropped.

These messages in the second bucket are the worst of the worst of spam messages; having to wade through them inside a quarantine is only a waste of time for our clients, and so we're choosing to remove them completely. This change should have an immediate impact on how many messages show up inside client quarantines, and should make browsing the quarantines much easier and faster.

New Client Functionality

As part of Heluna's ongoing commitment to making sure that our clients have the best antispam solution possible, we have introduced two new pieces of functionality for our clients.

First, for clients who have their quarantine turned on, a new way to browse the quarantined messages. The quarantine list can be sorted by message date (the default), or by sender e-mail address (if you're looking for one particular sender), or finally by "Spam Likelihood".

This sorting option allows you to view the least-likely spam messages (that is to say, those which are more likely to be clean messages) first. If any messages have inadvertently shown up in your quarantine, they should show up early on in the list, allowing you to approve that sender or re-send that message.

The second piece of new functionality is the addition of two more MX records. These MX records are described in a Heluna blog post and are designed to reduce the amount of incoming spam attempts to your domain.

We encourage our clients to change their MX records to the following:

reject1.heluna.com
mail.heluna.com
mailb.heluna.com
reject2.heluna.com

As always, if there are any questions or comments, please feel free to contact support and we'll be happy to assist.

Heluna Launches New Site

Heluna has launched the latest version of the Heluna website, including a complete redesign and brand new architecture from the ground up.

This new site allows for much faster response times and much easier configuration and administration by our clients. Clients should immediately notice the speed improvements, the answers to some common questions, and tips for how to reduce incoming spam even further.

Next, the new site allows for subscription by credit card in addition to Paypal. Clients who wish to change their subscription from Paypal to a more traditional credit card should contact Heluna support and we will help get you transitioned.

Lastly, the Heluna service itself has changed on the back-end. Clients should notice an even greater accuracy, with more spam messages being blocked and optionally quarantined. We are continuing to add even more functionality to the Heluna filters, and are always evaluating performance for our clients.

Thanks to all of our clients and testers who provided invaluable feedback. We're glad to launch the new site, and we hope our clients will enjoy it as well.
